In 1990 the first reunion was planned and organized by the committee members consisting of: Nettie Johnson Watts, Elbert Ray and Brenda Dickens, and Nancy Horne Freeman. The idea of this family reunion originated with James Lonnie Howell (dec. 1990), son of Ruby and James "Teet" Howell. Some history was told at that time but much more needed to be revealed and documented.
When we started our first family reunion in 1990, we did not have a lot of history collected at that time. However, for the next 10 years Sandra Bunns (Ann Dickens) worked diligently gathering information from the daughters of Charlie "Brooks" Lloyd and other relatives like Nancy Horne Freeman, Dorothy Horne Dancy (dec.) and various others who had stories to tell.
Brooks-Lloyd-Horne family began with this union of three names all began when Jasper Brooks married Lizzie Daniel and gave birth to several children through various marriages, all descendants of these three names.
So this is how we came about.
Jasper Brooks married Lizzie Daniels.
We are the descendants of the Jasper Brooks and Lizzie Daniels. They are parents of Elizabeth Brooks (married Needham Horne), grandparents of Charlie “Brooks” Lloyd. Charlie Lloyd was born to Lizzie and Gray Lloyd (hence his name is different from the Horne siblings). The Horne siblings came about after Charlie's mother married Needham Horne. This tree dates back to the late 1800’s.
Their daughter, Elizabeth Brooks was born. She gave birth to Charlie Brooks in 1904. He took his father's last name Lloyd but was always affectionally known as Charlie Brooks. "Lizzie" joined in marriage to Needham Horne and to this union several children were born with the last name Horne: Needham, Walter, Charles, ....
